post-up

Low block stance

Post-up comes from basketball, where a player positions themselves near the basket with their back to the defender, using their body to create space: He posted up in the paint and called for the ball.

The term extends to any situation where someone plants themselves firmly in a spot: We posted up at the bar and stayed all night.

As a noun, a post-up is this positioning or the play that results from it.
