pulps

Crushes to mush

Pulps is the verb form of pulp, meaning to reduce something to a soft, wet mass.

Paper mills pulp wood; publishers pulp unsold books by grinding them for recycling: They pulped ten thousand copies of the failed memoir.

The term also names cheap fiction magazines printed on rough wood-pulp paper, popular from the 1920s through 1950s: He collected old detective pulps.
