broadsides

Simultaneous cannon fire

Broadsides are verbal attacks or criticisms delivered forcefully and all at once, like a naval ship firing all its cannons from one side simultaneously: The senator launched broadsides against the proposed legislation.

The original broadside was a ship's flank or a volley fired from it.

A broadside is also a large sheet printed on one side only, used historically for announcements, ballads, or propaganda.

To hit something broadside is to strike it squarely on the side: The truck hit the car broadside.
