public service announcements
Free civic messages
Public service announcements are messages broadcast to inform or educate the public about health, safety, or social issues rather than to sell products.
Often abbreviated PSA.
They address topics like drunk driving, disease prevention, or emergency preparedness: This public service announcement is brought to you by the Ad Council.
The format has become a cultural reference point—people jokingly frame personal advice as PSAs: PSA: don't text your ex.
