psychosexual stages

Oral, anal, phallic

Psychosexual stages are the phases of childhood development in Freudian psychology, each centered on a different erogenous zone: oral, anal, phallic, latent, and genital.

Freud believed that fixation at any stage—through frustration or overindulgence—shapes adult personality and neurosis.

The theory remains influential in psychoanalytic thought, though largely rejected by modern psychology: He attributed her compulsive neatness to anal-stage fixation.
