psalmist
Sacred verse composer
A psalmist is a writer or composer of psalms—sacred songs or hymns, especially those in the biblical Book of Psalms.
The term often refers specifically to King David, traditionally credited with authoring many of the Psalms: David is called the psalmist of Israel.
More broadly, any composer of religious verse may be called a psalmist.
