psalmists

Biblical song composers

Psalmists are composers or singers of psalms—sacred songs or hymns, especially those in the biblical Book of Psalms.

The word most often refers to the ancient Hebrew authors of those texts, traditionally attributed to King David: The psalmist cries out to God in anguish.

By extension, anyone who writes devotional verse in that tradition.
