production value

Cinematic quality measure

Production value refers to the technical and aesthetic quality of a film, television show, or other media project—the visible resources behind it.

High production values suggest expensive sets, skilled cinematography, quality costumes, and polished special effects: The show has surprisingly high production values for a streaming series.

Low production values suggest the opposite: cheap, amateurish, or underfunded work.

The term often appears in discussions comparing budget to visual result.
