steadicam
Smooth shot device
A steadicam is a camera stabilization device that allows smooth, fluid footage while the operator moves—walking, running, or climbing stairs.
The mechanism isolates the camera from the operator's body movements through a system of counterweights and a specialized arm.
The term has become generic for any such stabilizing rig, though it originated as a trademark: The director wanted steadicam shots for the chase sequence. (Capitalized Steadicam is the trademarked brand name.)
