pre-mRNA

Needs splicing still

Pre-mRNA is the initial RNA transcript produced when DNA is copied in a cell's nucleus, before it undergoes processing to become mature messenger RNA.

This precursor contains sequences called introns that will be spliced out, along with exons that will remain in the final mRNA.

The processing—splicing, capping, and adding a poly-A tail—must occur before the molecule can leave the nucleus and direct protein synthesis.
