capping

Putting a top on

Capping is the act of putting a cap or lid on something: capping a bottle, capping a well.

It extends to setting upper limits: capping interest rates, capping enrollment.

To cap something off is to finish it, often with a flourish: She capped off the meal with homemade pie.

In slang, capping means lying or exaggerating: He's capping—that never happened.
