A pop-up ad is an advertisement that appears in a new browser window or overlays the content you're trying to view.
Pop-ups became notorious in the early internet era for interrupting browsing, spawning multiple windows, and being difficult to close.
Most browsers now block them by default: I disabled the pop-up blocker to access the site.
