Irritations are things that annoy or bother.
Minor irritations accumulate: the daily irritations of commuting, small irritations that build into resentment.
The word also refers to physical inflammation or soreness: skin irritations from the detergent, eye irritations from pollen.
Both senses share the idea of something that chafes or aggravates.
