poolroom

Table-game parlor

A poolroom is a commercial establishment with billiard tables available for hourly rental.

The term can also refer to a room in a private residence containing a pool table.

In older American usage, poolroom sometimes meant a place where betting on horse races occurred, since such establishments often had billiard tables: The cops raided the poolroom on suspicion of illegal gambling.
