hall

Building's main artery

A hall is a corridor or passageway inside a building: The bathroom is down the hall on the left.

Hall also means a large room for gatherings—a concert hall, lecture hall, or dance hall.

In older or grander buildings, the hall is the main entrance room.

University buildings are often called halls: residence hall, dining hall.

A hall of fame honors distinguished people in a field. (Capitalized Hall is a surname.)
