pivot turn
Turn on point
A pivot turn is a rotation performed while keeping one foot fixed in place, the body spinning around that anchored point.
The term appears in dance, skating, basketball, and skiing, where executing a clean pivot turn requires balance and control: She executed a sharp pivot turn to face her partner.
In skiing specifically, it describes turning the skis while stationary or nearly so, using the poles for support.
