chassé

Ballet's sliding step

A chassé is a gliding dance step where one foot slides to the side and the other foot closes to meet it, used in ballet, ballroom, and folk dancing.

The word comes from French for "chased," as one foot appears to chase the other.

As a verb, to chassé is to perform this step: She chasséd across the stage.
