cross step
Feet alternate crossing
A cross step is a footwork technique where one foot crosses in front of or behind the other while moving laterally.
The movement appears in dance, surfing, basketball defense, and other activities requiring smooth sideways motion.
In longboard surfing specifically, cross-stepping is the elegant way to walk toward the nose of the board: She cross-stepped to the tip and hung ten.
