crossover step
Leg-crossing footwork move
A crossover step is a lateral movement where one foot crosses in front of or behind the other, used in sports requiring quick directional changes.
Basketball players use crossover steps to defend against drives, while baseball outfielders use them to chase fly balls.
The technique allows faster lateral acceleration than shuffling: She took two crossover steps and closed the gap.
