personae

Masks we wear

Personae is the Latin plural of persona, used in English for the masks or public identities people present.

The term appears most often in literary and dramatic contexts: the various personae of the narrator, dramatis personae (the list of characters in a play).

In psychology and everyday use, personas has largely replaced it as the standard plural.
