overmarket

Hype beyond reality

To overmarket is to promote something excessively, often to the point of diminishing returns or audience fatigue.

A product can be overmarketed when advertising becomes so saturating that consumers grow annoyed or skeptical: The movie was so overmarketed that people were sick of it before it opened.

The term also describes pricing or positioning something above its actual market value.
