over-rotation
Too much rotation
Over-rotation is turning or spinning too far past the intended stopping point.
In gymnastics, diving, or skateboarding, an over-rotation means the athlete rotated beyond the landing position: She over-rotated on the dismount and stumbled forward.
In business and politics, it describes an excessive correction or reaction: The company over-rotated toward cost-cutting and damaged morale.
The word captures the sense of overcorrecting—going past the mark while trying to hit it.
