overemphasis

Too much focus

Overemphasis is excessive stress or attention given to something, usually at the expense of other considerations: The overemphasis on test scores has narrowed the curriculum.

The word implies imbalance—not that emphasis is wrong, but that it's disproportionate.

To overemphasize is to stress something too much: I can't overemphasize how important this is.
