out there
Far from mainstream
Out there describes something unconventional, eccentric, or extreme—ideas, behavior, or people that push beyond mainstream norms: Her theories are pretty out there, He's always been a little out there.
The phrase suggests distance from the center of acceptability, somewhere on the fringe.
Separately, out there simply means in a remote or external location: There's a lot of opportunity out there.
