feminist art
Women-centered creative works
Feminist art is art that addresses gender inequality, women's experiences, or challenges to patriarchal structures.
The term emerged in the 1960s and 70s alongside the women's movement, encompassing work that critiques traditional representations of women, reclaims female sexuality, or elevates domestic and craft traditions historically dismissed as lesser than fine art.
The museum's feminist art collection includes works by Judy Chicago and the Guerrilla Girls.
