female gaze
Women's visual authority
The female gaze is a way of depicting the world—in film, art, advertising, or literature—that reflects women's perspectives and desires.
Coined as a counterpoint to the male gaze, which objectifies women for male viewers, the female gaze centers women's subjectivity: how they see themselves, what they find attractive, what stories matter to them.
The film's female gaze lingers on emotional connection rather than bodies.
