humanization

Adding human qualities

Humanization is the process of making something more human or humane.

A policy might undergo humanization to become less bureaucratic and more responsive to individual needs.

In medicine, humanization often refers to treating patients as whole people rather than cases: The hospital's humanization initiative reduced wait times and improved bedside manner.

The word also applies to making abstract systems—technology, institutions, warfare—more considerate of human dignity and experience.
