nitrous oxide
Dentist's calming inhalant
Nitrous oxide is a colorless gas with a slightly sweet odor, used medically as an anesthetic and analgesic, particularly in dentistry where it's commonly called laughing gas for the euphoria it can produce.
It also serves as a propellant in aerosol cans, especially for whipped cream, and as a performance enhancer in racing engines where it provides extra oxygen for combustion.
Recreational inhalation of nitrous oxide produces brief intoxication and carries serious health risks including oxygen deprivation.
