conscious sedation
Awake but calm
Conscious sedation is a medical state induced by drugs in which a patient remains awake and responsive but feels relaxed and experiences reduced pain and anxiety.
Used for procedures like colonoscopies or dental work, it allows patients to follow instructions while remaining comfortable: The dentist recommended conscious sedation for the wisdom tooth extraction.
Unlike general anesthesia, patients breathe independently and typically remember little afterward.
