argon
Lightbulb filler gas
Argon is a colorless, odorless gas that makes up about one percent of Earth's atmosphere.
It belongs to the noble gases, a group known for being chemically inert—argon almost never reacts with other elements.
This stability makes it useful in welding, where it shields metals from oxygen, and in light bulbs, where it prevents filaments from burning out quickly.
The welder switched to argon for a cleaner finish.
