negative film
Light-reversed image strip
Negative film is photographic film that records images with reversed tones—light areas appear dark and dark areas appear light.
In color negatives, colors also appear as their complements: blue skies look orange, red lips look cyan.
The negative serves as a master from which positive prints are made: She held the negative film up to the light to check the exposure.
Digital photography has largely displaced negative film in everyday use.
