photo emulsion
Film's reactive layer
Photo emulsion is a light-sensitive coating applied to film, paper, or glass in photography.
It typically consists of silver halide crystals suspended in gelatin.
When exposed to light, the crystals undergo chemical changes that form a latent image, later developed into a visible photograph.
The term also applies to similar coatings used in screen printing and other imaging processes.
