narc

Undercover drug agent

A narc is an informer—someone who reports others' illegal activities to authorities, especially involving drugs.

The word comes from narcotics agent, but has broadened: anyone who tattles or snitches can be called a narc.

As a verb, to narc is to inform: Who narced on us?

The word carries strong disapproval—narcs violate codes of loyalty.
