tattler

Playground gossip monger

A tattler is someone who reveals secrets or reports others' misdeeds, especially a child who tells on playmates: Don't be a tattler.

The word carries childish connotations—adults who inform are more likely called informants or snitches.

Tattler also names certain shorebirds known for their alarm calls that alert other wildlife to danger.
