stoolie

Rat to cops

A stoolie is a police informant—someone who reports criminal activity to law enforcement, often from within a criminal organization.

The word is slang, shortened from stool pigeon, and carries strong connotations of betrayal: Nobody trusts a stoolie.

In crime fiction and real underworld culture, being labeled a stoolie can be dangerous or fatal.
