monsoon winds
Asia's rainy breezes
Monsoon winds are seasonal winds that reverse direction between summer and winter, most famously bringing heavy rains to South Asia.
In summer, air over land heats faster than over ocean, drawing moisture-laden winds inland; in winter, the pattern reverses.
The term often refers specifically to the rainy season these winds create: The monsoon winds arrived early this year.
