tropical storms
Violent ocean weather
Tropical storms are organized weather systems with sustained winds between 39 and 73 miles per hour, forming over warm ocean waters.
Below this threshold they're tropical depressions; above it, hurricanes or typhoons depending on the ocean basin.
The systems bring heavy rain, flooding, and dangerous winds to coastal areas: A tropical storm warning has been issued for the Gulf Coast.
