miscalculations
Math gone awry
Miscalculations are errors in judgment or computation.
The word applies equally to mathematical mistakes and to flawed assessments of situations: The invasion was based on serious miscalculations about how the population would respond.
A miscalculation implies the person tried to calculate correctly but got it wrong—distinguishing it from negligence or wild guessing.
