microdamage

Minute tissue injury

Microdamage refers to tiny structural injuries, typically in bone or other tissues, that accumulate from repeated stress or normal use.

In bone biology, microdamage describes microscopic cracks that healthy tissue continuously repairs through remodeling: Stress fractures develop when microdamage accumulates faster than the body can repair it.

The term appears in materials science for similar small-scale degradation in metals or composites.
