naming rights

Purchased title privilege

Naming rights are the privilege, typically purchased, to attach a name to a building, stadium, event, or other property.

Corporations pay substantial sums for naming rights to sports venues, allowing them to rebrand arenas with their company name for advertising value: The bank paid $400 million for naming rights to the new stadium.

The term also applies to the authority parents have to name their children or the right to name discoveries, species, or charitable foundations after donors.
