ombuds
Institutional grievance handler
An ombuds is an official who investigates complaints against institutions—typically universities, corporations, or government agencies—and advocates for fair resolution.
The role originated in Scandinavian government as ombudsman, but ombuds serves as a gender-neutral alternative: The university ombuds helped mediate the dispute between the student and administration.
