land ho
Crow's nest cry
Land ho is a sailor's cry announcing that land has been sighted from a ship, traditionally called out by the lookout in the crow's nest.
The exclamation marks the end of an ocean voyage or signals proximity to a destination.
Like thar she blows for whales, it survives mainly as nautical cliché or playful reference: Land ho! I can see the beach house from here.
