key fob

Pocket car remote

A key fob is a small device attached to a keychain or carried separately, used to remotely control locks, alarms, or vehicle functions.

Originally a decorative ornament on a key ring, fob now typically refers to the electronic remote itself: I locked the car with my key fob.

Some fobs use proximity sensors to unlock doors automatically when you approach.
