Ring's staged reality
Kayfabe is the professional wrestling convention of maintaining the illusion that staged events are real.
Wrestlers stay in character, feuds are treated as genuine, and the scripted nature of matches goes unacknowledged.
The term has spread beyond wrestling to describe any maintained fiction or refusal to break character: The whole industry runs on kayfabe.
To break kayfabe is to acknowledge the performance.
