johnnycakes
Rhode Island pancakes
Johnnycakes are flat cornmeal cakes, a traditional American food particularly associated with New England and the South.
They're made from cornmeal, water or milk, and sometimes a little fat, then fried on a griddle.
Regional variations abound—thin and crispy in Rhode Island, thicker elsewhere.
Also spelled johnny cakes or journeycakes.
