javelinas

Wild Southwestern swine

Javelinas are pig-like mammals native to the Americas, also called peccaries.

They resemble wild boars but belong to a different family.

Found from the southwestern United States through South America, javelinas travel in herds and have a reputation for aggressive behavior when threatened: We surprised a group of javelinas on the hiking trail.
