jai alai

Basque wall game

Jai alai is a fast-paced court game in which players use curved wicker baskets strapped to their wrists to hurl a ball against a wall.

The sport originated in the Basque region of Spain and became associated with gambling, particularly in Florida, where frontons (jai alai arenas) once drew crowds for parimutuel betting.
