prizefighting
Professional boxing matches
Prizefighting is boxing for money, especially professional boxing.
The term dates from when such bouts were often illegal or barely regulated, fought for a cash prize.
Today it sounds slightly old-fashioned or literary, evoking bare-knuckle brawls more than modern sanctioned matches: He spent his youth in the prizefighting circuit.
