execration

Vehement verbal condemnation

Execration is the act of cursing or denouncing someone or something with intense loathing.

The word carries a formal, almost ritualistic weight—closer to a solemn condemnation than casual swearing: The dictator's name became an execration among the people.

An execration can also be the curse itself, or the object of such hatred: He was held in execration by his former allies.
