interlinear

Text between lines

Interlinear describes text placed between the lines of another text, typically a translation or gloss appearing directly beneath each line of the original: an interlinear Bible with Greek and English.

The format lets readers compare source and translation word by word without flipping between pages.

Interlinear editions are common tools for language learners working through classical texts.
